A sales & recruitment harness is a computer controlled by AI, tuned specifically for the work a salesperson or recruiter does — connected to your databases, your outreach systems, and your data, so it doesn't just answer questions, it actually does the work.
That's the short version. Let me explain properly, because "harness" has become one of those AI words everyone uses and few explain.
First, what is a "harness"?
Harness got a lot of popularity in the AI niche, and it still remains very popular. I'm not sure whether that's because the term was borrowed from real-world horsing, which is fine, or because it's quite hard to understand for non-technical people. So I'll try to explain it in a super simple way.
A harness, in reality, is just a computer like yours. Even if you're reading this on an iPhone or Android device, it's still a computer (just a bit restricted).
It's a computer that can run commands and do things — even move a mouse or type characters — but not by human command. By AI command.
In very simple words: a harness is a computer controlled by AI.
Of course, even though AI can move the mouse and type on the keyboard, in many cases it's just running commands in the terminal, like bash/shell commands. But that's mostly a technical detail 🙂
Now let's talk about the sales/recruitment harness
The sales/recruitment harness was created by Execue as the first one of its kind. I'd put the sales harness and the recruitment harness into one category — a kind of desk harness, if you want. It's a computer very specifically tuned for the tasks of a salesperson and/or a recruiter.
And you might wonder: is this just a prompt on top of a "normal" harness, which basically turns a normal computer into a sales/recruitment computer?
No, it's not just the prompt. A prompt is part of it, but it's neither the only part nor the main part.
The first and biggest difference is what actually makes this computer a sales computer or a recruitment computer — the connections:
connections to external databases, e.g. job boards, candidates
connections to internal databases like your ATS, e.g. Ashby or Loxo
connections to dozens of Execue APIs or MCP — for example, email or phone number enrichment APIs
connections to different sub-agents — for example, an agent that researches each person, a prospect, or a candidate when you're sourcing. That agent is also connected to the computer.
Again, you could say this is just a normal computer with connected sources and a prompt on top — yeah, you'd be much closer to the truth, but still not exactly right.
The main difference is in how you, the AI, the computer, the data sources, and the prompt all mesh together and combine. That combination really creates a new level of creativity.
And calling it a new way is not an exaggeration. When we at the Execue team created the Sales and Recruitment Harness, we were genuinely excited and surprised by its capabilities from the very first days.
A real case: business cards from a Washington conference, segmented
Let me share a real example I personally witnessed in the first days of Execue.
That day, I'd come back from a conference in Washington, D.C., right after the alpha version was released. I was there with a delegation — at that time, the biggest one — around 50 people. I collected a lot of business cards.
The conference itself wasn't really focused on customers, but more on networking. So I ended up with three groups of cards: delegation contacts, network and potential partners, and potential customers.
I then had to deal with all three groups. And even just collecting and handling conference business cards is still a big problem, even today. I heard people from the delegation talking about exactly this issue. One person said, "Okay, let's just photograph them and upload them to Claude." Someone else said, "Okay, but then I need to put them into the CRM. Then I need to write messages, follow up, wait for replies, and so on."
And I thought: this is exactly what Execue is built for.
So I went home and took photos of the cards. I grouped them into three columns and gave three simple prompts:
First column: send a connection request, just expanding the network.
Second column: send a simple thanks for connecting offline and for the meeting. We might explore opportunities in the future.
Third column: treat them like potential customers — research them, qualify them, and draft strong, personalized post-conference follow-up messages.
And just like that, in three messages, the entire outreach was done. I simply reviewed it and sent it.
Photo recognition, AI messaging, contact research, CRM connection, and uploading everything — all of it came together in one chat and three messages. That was genuinely surprising to me as a capability.
The second case: research that checks the facts on the fly
Another use case I often hear from customers is research.
When people brainstorm hypotheses about whom to reach out to — for example in BD/outreach — they usually do research very theoretically. They assume a certain industry has enough relevant people, but checking that manually is hard. You'd need to go and search, then verify how many leads actually exist in a specific segment.
With Execue, you can do that precisely. So instead of brainstorming in theory, Execue checks the facts for you.
That creates a completely new experience and a new level of brainstorming that simply wasn't possible before — unless each of your ideas got checked by your assistant on the fly.
These are two examples that show how the product is fundamentally different from a regular chat that just answers questions, or from a Google or Perplexity search. Execue actually does things on the computer, specifically centered around sales and recruitment.
Going further: what a harness needs to know about you
What does going further with a computing harness mean for your sales and recruitment capabilities?
If you take any normal computer, it has nothing to do with your sales data, like:
your target customer (your ICP)
your signals (e.g. a job posted, or your past customer moved to a new role and is now hiring)
or — even better — knowledge about you and your proof points, like the blog posts and case studies you share with customers to convince them
and most importantly, your value proposition (your offer)
This is where Execue comes in. The memory of Execue can be edited like normal storage, but in a very structured way — like in the old SaaS days, now combined with AI. That's actually a new way of bringing the harness into our world.
Compare that to a normal harness — a Claude harness, for example, which you can set up in Claude's managed agents. Your ICP or your value proposition will still live in some file somewhere. You still need to teach it and implement a lot of logic to update that file when new information appears or when a prospect responds.

and most importantly, gives you control over this data
Now, to be fair and current: general-purpose assistants have improved here. Claude and ChatGPT now let you view and edit what they remember about you. But that memory is unstructured — a summary of you, edited at the summary level. What Execue gives you is different: structured, field-level control over your ICP, your signals, your proof points, and your offer — the specific building blocks of sales and recruitment work, each editable on its own, used at the right moment. That's the distinction:
Unstructured memory tells the AI about you. Structured memory lets you operate it.
In Execue you control that structure, because you basically control everything.
So why isn't everyone using it?
The short answer: they will 😜
Another answer is that sometimes you just don't need such an overpowered tool for simple tasks. For example, you can paste a LinkedIn URL and ask it to find a phone number or an email for that person (I do it all the time). But in reality, that means going into the machine and running a deep process every single time. Maybe a Chrome extension for your CRM over LinkedIn can do that job more efficiently (yeah, maybe — because I still prefer chat 😀).
If you really need simplicity, a harness is not about simplicity. It's about power.
That's why at Execue we really strive to combine the two. But that's a separate story — we create deterministic workflows, and even more than deterministic, durable ones, and we combine them with the powerful side of the harness.
Because a harness is also expensive, right? That's another limitation worth mentioning.
How can I build my own harness?
The simplest way is to build your harness on top of an existing one. There's a harness in ChatGPT and in Claude. Let's take Claude. Nowadays, Claude not only responds to you — it can actually do things and execute tasks in normal chats (still limited, but yeah, it can).
So the simplest way to build your own harness is basically three things:
Create a project
Add connectors
Most importantly, implement skills — your specific prompts that make the harness truly yours
The first thing you can really do is implement a skill that executes connections to your outreach systems, or to external databases you already have. Add connections to those databases so that, in one shot, you can pull data from somewhere and then write messages using Claude's capabilities.
I wouldn't really recommend using Claude alone for writing messages, because they'll be very generic. You need to enrich them, using deep data about each person and each company. When you do that, you can write truly deep, personalized messages and then send them — even through the skill — into your outreach system.
The same goes for sourcing. If you can connect a database to connectors, do that tomorrow and try it. But then you need a skill, ideally written with a bit of JavaScript (which Claude can also help you write), that does the scoring — deterministically.
Skills, by the way, can contain code. That allows you to be really precise with candidate evaluation, while the LLM does the semantic analysis of the candidate profile. But again: be careful that the LLM has enough information and isn't guessing data.
